The Prayer Room

As Catholics, the most powerful weapon in our arsenal is prayer. Because St. Therese of Lisieux, “The Little Flower”, has helped me and others countless times, I am including a simple prayer of petition, as well as instructions to pray her chaplet. Please remember to pray as often as you can, right through to Election Day. I believe that America is a fundamentally good nation, and our future hinges on the outcome of this election.

Prayer of Petition to St. Therese

St. Therese, beloved friend, you promised to spend your heaven doing good upon earth. We come before you in our need. We believe that you listen to us and approach God for and with us. You are love in the heart of the Church. You are love in the heart of God. Please accept these petitions, hopes, needs, and dreams I list below. Please present them to our Loving Father so that God may do what is best for us, for our loved ones, and for the fulfillment of God’s Kingdom. Continue your shower of roses in our lives. We ask you, dear friend, with the bold confidence and loving surrender you taught us. We make this prayerful petition in the name of Jesus and through the power of His Spirit.

The Chaplet of St. Therese

This is typically said on the beads of St. Therese, which consist of a St. Therese medal and twenty-four beads. You can certainly pray the chaplet without the beads, or for a very small donation you can order your own beads from littleflower.org. The chaplet may be prayed for nine consecutive days, or twenty-four consecutive days. Of course I don’t think it would hurt to pray it for even longer!

The following prayer is said on the first bead (directly above the medal):

St. Therese of the Infant Jesus, Patroness of the Missions, pray for us!

Say the intention you are praying for after this prayer.

On each of the twenty-four beads pray:

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Finally, say the following closing prayer:

St. Therese, Little Flower, please pick me a rose from the heavenly garden and send it to me with a message of love. Ask God to grant me the favor I implore of you, and tell Him please that I will love Him more and more each day.

Below is an election-specific prayer from CatholicVote.com:

An Election Prayer to Mary

O Most Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Mercy, at this most critical time, we
entrust the United States of America to your loving care. Most Holy Mother,
we beg you to reclaim this land for the glory of your Son. Overwhelmed with
the burden of the sins of our nation, we cry to you from the depths of our
hearts and seek refuge in your motherly protection. Look down with mercy
upon us and touch the hearts of our people. Open our minds to the great
worth of human life and to the responsibilities that accompany human
freedom. Free us from the falsehoods that lead to the evil of abortion and
threaten the sanctity of family life. Grant our country the wisdom to proclaim
that God’s law is the foundation on which this nation was founded, and that
He alone is the True Source of our cherished rights to life, liberty and the
pursuit of happiness. O Merciful Mother, give us the courage to reject the
culture of death and the strength to build a new Culture of Life.

Trusting in your most powerful intercession, we pray…
Remember O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone
who fled to thy protection, implored thy help or sought thy intercession was
left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, we fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins,
our Mother. To thee do we come, before thee we stand, sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not our petitions, but in thy mercy
hear and answer us. Amen.

You may also wish to ask for Our Lady of Guadalupe’s intercession, since she is Patroness of the Americas and Patroness of the Unborn.

If you will be joining us in prayer please leave a comment including your first name and your state! I hope to get as many “signatures” as possible so that we can all feel encouraged and send a powerful message. Please note that negative and/or unrelated comments WILL NOT be published.
